Located in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand, Baba Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple is the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. In addition and facing the east, this 72 feet tall temple is standing tall and is made with the single rock.
There are several folklores associated with the past of temple. The most prevalent one is that Ravan, the Demon King, was a staunch follower of Lord Shiva. And he wanted to take Lord Shiva along with him in his country Lanka. Therefore he worshipped him as a boon Lord Shiva agreed to give him Shivlinga which he could take with him. On the other hand the other Gods didn’t want this to happen and hence they played a trick to Ravana. Falling for their trap the Ravana somehow lost the ownership of shivlinga near Devghar. And since then this shivling is considered the most pious all over the country. Gradually the temple built over it and it became famous as one of the Jyotirlinga of India.
