While residing in India Lord Dalhousie, viceroy of British India came here to spend some quite time with nature. Moreover the moderate temperature of this place which named after him had become the quiescent place to escapes sizzling heat of summer season of India. In due course of time British had acquired all the five hills of Chamba district from its ruler and then gained its name Dalhousie in common.
After Lord Dalhousie it became a dwelling place to British personnel and their families who are residing in India while ruling, to cut some scorching heat of summer month. Since then it became very popular hill station in Himachal Pradesh and still grab numerous tourist due to its pleasant and moderate temperature throughout the year. It is located at a distance of 575.5 Km from New Delhi, national capital of India and also very well connected to all the major National Highways and roads. In case there is a road trip than travelling via NH 1 crossing all the major cities like New Delhi –Ghaziabad-Panipat-Kurushetra-Ambala-Ludhiana-Jalandhar-Pathankot-Dalhousie, is the shortest way. It approximately takes 10-11 hours, but driving through mountainous route is little bit a problem, so hiring a car for this particular route is highly recommendable.
